Princes William, Harry Attend Queen’s ‘Farewell’ State Dinner Without Meghan, Pregnant Kate

Prince William and Prince Harry joined the queen’s state dinner without their partners Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, respectively.

On Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II hosted a farewell state dinner for the members of the royal family and world leaders in the Picture Gallery. Based on the photos shared by Daily Mail, it had an air of farewell party for the monarch whose Commonwealth successor would be announced on Friday.

Prince Charles, Prince Harry and Prince William were also present at the event without their partners. Markle’s future husband was even photographed with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau and Prince Harry are close friends. However, the couple opted not to invite the former on their big day.

“While the prime minister and Sophie Trudeau will not be attending the wedding, we congratulate Prince Harry and Ms. Markle and wish them the best,” Trudeau’s office said in a statement.

Although Markle was not present at the state dinner, she and Prince Harry attended an event championing women in the Commonwealth earlier that day. The actress donned an LBD look in her belted sheath dress from Black Halo.

“I told Meghan she was pretty, which she is. She said she watched me give my speech. She said she was really impressed, and that that is what she wants girls to do,” a 15-year-old schoolgirl from Nigeria told People about her encounter with the future royal.

On the other hand, Prince William’s wife, Middleton, is already on maternity leave, so she’s missing in most of the royal events lately. Middleton made her final engagement in March when she and Prince William attended another Commonwealth event. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited London’s Olympic Park and SportsAid.

Prince William and Middleton are expecting their third child any minute now. According to an insider the Duchess is due on April 23. Middleton will deliver the new addition to their family in the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. She also gave birth to Prince George and Princess Charlotte on the same facility in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

Middleton is back in London after visiting her parents’ home in Bucklebury and Sandringham in the past weeks. The Duchess is reportedly prepping for the arrival of her third baby.

Meghan Markle May Not Wear A White Wedding Dress For This Reason

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress may not be white.

Prince Harry and Markle’s royal wedding is only a few weeks away and many are already looking forward to seeing her bridal gown. According to a fashion expert, the “Suits” actress may opt for an ivory dress instead of white.

“The etiquette on white dresses for second marriages is now very fluid. A lot of divorced brides choose to wear white again. However, she is marrying a member of the Royal family, so she may opt for ivory or an off-white shade which actually would be perfect on her skin tone,” Raishma told Express.

“Golden tones of cream and champagne would be very flattering on her but slightly more unconventional for a royal wedding – however, we may have a maverick royal bride on our hands!” the fashion expert continued.

When asked what Markle’s royal wedding dress will look like, Raishma believes that it will feature either silk tulle or Chantilly lace on either the sleeves, veil or neckline. She also predicted that its train will be longer than Kate Middleton’s gown, which was 2.6 meters long.

“Pops of colour on a pale colour base are a key look for this year,” the designer added. “For example blush or lilac accents in beading on an ivory base. This would create a very contemporary and fashionable gown, but it is quite daring for a Royal Wedding!”

On the other hand, Katie Nicholl believes that Markle’s gown on her wedding day will not upstage the Duchess of Cambridge’s. The royal biographer also shares a hint of what Markle wants to wear on her special day.

“I’m told that she wants something with lace, that she wants something with sleeves,” Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “Of course she’s dressing for the rather inclement British weather, but more than that she’s dressing for a very, very important occasion. So I think you will be probably pleasantly surprised for Meghan the ‘rule breaker’ when it comes to this dress. I think it’s gonna tick all the right boxes: traditional, elegant, sophisticated, memorable, and fitting.”

Nicholl also believes that Prince Harry’s bride will wear something borrowed from his mom. This is a great way to pay tribute to Princess Diana on their special day.

“I think there’s every possibility that Meghan might wear a piece from Diana’s jewellery collection on her wedding day,” the royal biographer said.

Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho Among Neymar’s Players To Watch At World Cup

A number of Premier League players including Mohamed Salah are on Neymar’s radar ahead of the World Cup in Russia this summer.

The 2018 edition of international football’s most prestigious trophy is less than two months away and Neymar is hoping to be fully fit for Brazil’s opening clash against Switzerland on June 17 as he recuperates from a foot surgery.

But other than himself and the usual players to watch in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the 25-year-old expects compatriots Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus to make a difference among some other names who play in Europe.

“There are lots of quality players. It’s the World Cup we’re talking about, only the best in the world,” Neymar said in quotes reported by Globo Esporte via FourFourTwo. “But Coutinho and Jesus are two that can make a difference. I hope they do.”

“Mohamed Salah doesn’t play for a big national team [Egypt], but he can have a good World Cup. There are also other very talented players: Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Luis Suarez,” he added.

Salah is definitely one to look out for as the Egyptian is experiencing a dream season with Liverpool with his remarkable 40 goals and 13 assists in 45 games in all competitions propelling Jurgen Klopp’s men to the semifinals of the Champions League.

Salah also helped his nation qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1990 but Neymar does not expect him or any other player to fare well against the “strongest” Brazil side ever.

“I hope we all can perform well and have a wonderful World Cup, but I expect them not to do so against Brazil,” Neymar added. “I’m glad to be part of a team that, for me, is the strongest right now. We have quality players to win and we’ll try to make it happen.”

Neymar has not played a game since Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 league win over Marseille in February after breaking a bone in his foot. He is expected to have a final medical examination on his foot on May 17 and pending that, he expects to return to training and fulfill his dream of lifting the World Cup with Brazil.

“I’ll have enough time to return for the World Cup and prepare beforehand. It’s not good being injured, but I feel rested,” he recently told reporters. “We have to look at it from the positive angle. I hope I can get there even better than I was.”

“I have some doubts, of course — it’s my first surgery, it’s normal. I’ll get in shape, work as hard as I can. From the moment I can resume training, I’ll dedicate myself even more because the dream is closer, the World Cup. I waited four years for this opportunity and now it’s closer,” he said.

The World Cup takes place in Russia from June 14 to July 15.

Lewis Hamilton Will Sign New Mercedes Deal Despite Delay, Niki Lauda Says

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team’s non-executive chairman Niki Lauda is confident Lewis Hamilton will continue to drive for them beyond the 2018 season despite the delay in extending his contract.

The British driver is out of contract at the end of this season and is yet to sign a new deal with the Mercedes team. They have been in talks since the end of last season, but cannot seem to reach an agreement that suits both parties.

Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team’s CEO and team principal is clear they want to continue with Hamilton for the foreseeable future and the four-time world champion also expressed his desire to stay with the Silver Arrows team on a number of occasions.

Reports prior to the start of the season suggested they were close to reaching an agreement with Hamilton expected to put pen-to-paper on a new deal worth £40 million ($56 million) per season. The deal will potentially make him the joint highest paid on the grid with Sebastian Vettel also said to be on similar wages at Ferrari.

However, Mercedes’ poor start to the 2018 season is likely to have put contract talks on the back burner with the team still at a loss to explain why they have not won a race thus far. They were favorites coming into the season, but Ferrari won the first two races of the season with Red Bull Racing taking victory in the third round in China.

Former Williams driver Damon Hill seemed to suggest Hamilton could delay contract talks in order to ensure Mercedes are still the leading team or if he has to consider a move to one of their rivals, mainly Ferrari, who seem to be the fastest car on the grid at the moment.

Lauda, however, is confident Hamilton will remain with Mercedes beyond 2018 despite admitting contract talks have been a bit of a roller coaster in recent months. Hamilton is unlikely to discuss contracts until he can get back to winning ways with the next race at the Baku Street Circuit in Azerbaijan on April 29.

“It’s just about the details. Lewis will continue to drive for us,” Lauda told German publication Auto Motor und Sport, as quoted by Autoweek.

“Depending on the mood, it is sometimes more or less expensive,” the former Ferrari and McLaren driver added. “It always depends on how the last race went. But the money is not a problem. We agree in principle.”

While Hamilton remains Mercedes’ priority for next season, the driver market is abuzz with talks regarding the future of Daniel Ricciardo, the Red Bull Racing driver, who is also out of contract at the end of the season. He is also seeking a championship winning car and if his current employers cannot provide one this season, he is likely to seek a new challenge for 2019.

Mercedes’ second driver Valtteri Bottas is also out of contract at the end of the season and he could be asked to make way for the Australian. But the Finn put in some fine performances in the opening three races this season and staked his claim for a long-term future at Mercedes.

Ferrari are also likely to have a seat vacant with Kimi Raikkonen in the final year of his contract, but it remains to be seen if they will go for a proven race winner or give a chance to one of the upcoming drivers from the Ferrari young driver development program, namely, Charles Leclerc, who currently drives for the Alfa Romeo Sauber Team in F1.

Meghan Markle Should Be Next Commonwealth Head, Not Prince Charles, Author Says

Not everyone agrees that Prince Charles will make a great Commonwealth head, one author thinks Meghan Markle is a better option.

The “Suits” star is not an official royal yet, but she’s been attending a number of engagements with Prince Harry in the past months. In fact, she appeared at the different Commonwealth events this week. According to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, 36, Prince Harry’s fiancée should succeed Queen Elizabeth II’s post in the Commonwealth.

“Actually, I think Meghan Markle should be Head of the Commonwealth,” Adichie said on Channel 4 News (via Express) when asked about Prince Charles’ possibility to replace the queen.

Jon Snow, the TV presenter and host, also asked Adichie if she had ever thought that “the British royal family would marry into a mixed-race family.”

“Why not? And you know black people are gorgeous so, of course, a person who wants gorgeousness in their life would do well to look at that,” she answered.

“I think there is also something very modern and forward looking about their love and there is something about it that I just find really interesting and that it has that progressive element to it,” Adichie added.

Although Adichie prefers Markle to be the next Commonwealth head, it is unlikely to happen. However, there is a big possibility that Prince Charles will succeed the title from Her Majesty.

On Wednesday, the prime minister of Australia announced that they are endorsing the Prince of Wales for the job.

“The head of the Commonwealth is Her Majesty the Queen, and the next head of the Commonwealth should be her successor, who will be Prince Charles,” Malcolm Turnbull told reporters. “The Australian government’s position is that the head of the Commonwealth should continue to be the king or queen of the United Kingdom.”

Prior to Turnbull’s announcement, Theresa May’s spokesman also said that they are backing Prince Charles. For them, the Duke of Cornwall has been supportive of the organization for over 40 years already.

“The UK supports the Prince of Wales as the next head of the Commonwealth. He has been a proud supporter of the Commonwealth for more than four decades and has spoken passionately about the organisation’s unique diversity,” the spokesperson said. “Succession is a matter for the Commonwealth as a whole to determine.”

The decision for the next Commonwealth head will be made on Friday.

Queen Elizabeth II Publicly Endorses Prince Charles As Head Of The Commonwealth

Queen Elizabeth II has publicly endorsed her son, Prince Charles, for the role of the new Head of the Commonwealth.

During the state dinner on Thursday, the 91-year-old monarch gave a speech about her time as the leader of the Commonwealth.

“It is my sincere wish that the Commonwealth will continue to offer stability and continuity for future generations, and will decide that one day The Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949,” she said.

After the Queen’s speech, Prince Charles also took the stage to share how the Commonwealth has been a very important aspect of his life.

“For my part, the Commonwealth has been a fundamental feature of my life for as long as I can remember, beginning with my first visit to Malta when I was just five years old,” he said.

There has been much talk surrounding the next Head of the Commonwealth. It has been revealed that the members of the Commonwealth will name their new leader on Friday. Prince Charles is not guaranteed the position even though he is the heir to the throne.

The Queen is not the only member of the Commonwealth that wants Prince Charles to become the next head. Lord Marland, a British businessman, and Conservative politician, said that he has given his support to the Duke of Cornwall.

“He has been a great supporter of ours. People don’t realize how lucky we are to have this royal family. The great thing is they are removed from politics. For an organization like this to have a non-politician as its head is something great, I believe,” he said.

But earlier this month, Kate Osamor, the shadow international development secretary, said that she doesn’t think Prince Charles is fit for the role.

“I don’t really know what he’s been up to of late. He’s not been vocal on issues,” she said.

Breathtaking Hubble Images As Space Telescope Completes 28 Years Of Observation

Come Tuesday, April 24, and the Hubble Space Telescope would have completed 28 years in space, observing the universe and sending back images in unprecedented detail. This eye in the sky has greatly helped improve our understanding of space, and the various and amazing objects that are in it.

Like they do every year, the telescope’s operators — NASA and the European Space Agency — released some impressive images captured by Hubble to celebrate its anniversary. The images showed the Lagoon Nebula, located about 4,000 light-years away, in both visible light and infrared.

But over the years, the space-based observatory has captured a very large number of stunning and breathtaking images, and we present here a selection from among its vast library.

Hubble will be succeeded by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), a next-generation device with capabilities far exceeding those of Hubble. JWST will be able to look into places that are obscure to Hubble.

Your Next Pilot Could Be Drone Software

Would you get on a plane that didn’t have a human pilot in the cockpit? Half of air travelers surveyed in 2017 said they would not, even if the ticket was cheaper. Modern pilots do such a good job that almost any air accident is big news, such as the Southwest engine disintegration on April 17.

But stories of pilot drunkennessrantsfights and distraction, however rare, are reminders that pilots are only human. Not every plane can be flown by a disaster-averting pilot, like Southwest Capt. Tammie Jo Shults or Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. But software could change that, equipping every plane with an extremely experienced guidance system that is always learning more.

In fact, on many flights, autopilot systems already control the plane for basically all of the flight. And software handles the most harrowing landings – when there is no visibility and the pilot can’t see anything to even know where he or she is. But human pilots are still on hand as backups.

A new generation of software pilots, developed for self-flying vehicles, or drones, will soon have logged more flying hours than all humans have – ever. By combining their enormous amounts of flight data and experience, drone-control software applications are poised to quickly become the world’s most experienced pilots.

Drones that fly themselves

Drones come in many forms, from tiny quad-rotor copter toys to missile-firing winged planes, or even 7-ton aircraft that can stay aloft for 34 hours at a stretch.

When drones were first introduced, they were flown remotely by human operators. However, this merely substitutes a pilot on the ground for one aloft. And it requires significant communications bandwidth between the drone and control center, to carry real-time video from the drone and to transmit the operator’s commands.

Many newer drones no longer need pilots; some drones for hobbyists and photographers can now fly themselves along human-defined routes, leaving the human free to sightsee – or control the camera to get the best view.

University researchersbusinesses and military agencies are now testing larger and more capable drones that will operate autonomously. Swarms of drones can fly without needing tens or hundreds of humans to control them. And they can perform coordinated maneuvers that human controllers could never handle.

Whether flying in swarms or alone, the software that controls these drones is rapidly gaining flight experience.

Importance of pilot experience

Experience is the main qualification for pilots. Even a person who wants to fly a small plane for personal and noncommercial use needs 40 hours of flying instruction before getting a private pilot’s license. Commercial airline pilots must have at least 1,000 hours before even serving as a co-pilot.

On-the-ground training and in-flight experience prepare pilots for unusual and emergency scenarios, ideally to help save lives in situations like the “Miracle on the Hudson.” But many pilots are less experienced than “Sully” Sullenberger, who saved his planeload of people with quick and creative thinking. With software, though, every plane can have on board a pilot with as much experience – if not more. A popular software pilot system, in use in many aircraft at once, could gain more flight time each day than a single human might accumulate in a year.

As someone who studies technology policy as well as the use of artificial intelligence for dronescarsrobots and other uses, I don’t lightly suggest handing over the controls for those additional tasks. But giving software pilots more control would maximize computers’ advantages over humans in training, testing and reliability.

Training and testing software pilots

Unlike people, computers will follow sets of instructions in software the same way every time. That lets developers create instructions, test reactions and refine aircraft responses. Testing could make it far less likely, for example, that a computer would mistake the planet Venus for an oncoming jet and throw the plane into a steep dive to avoid it.

The most significant advantage is scale: Rather than teaching thousands of individual pilots new skills, updating thousands of aircraft would require only downloading updated software.

These systems would also need to be thoroughly tested – in both real-life situations and in simulations – to handle a wide range of aviation situations and to withstand cyberattacks. But once they’re working well, software pilots are not susceptible to distraction, disorientation, fatigue or other human impairments that can create problems or cause errors even in common situations.

Rapid response and adaptation

Already, aircraft regulators are concerned that human pilots are forgetting how to fly on their own and may have trouble taking over from an autopilot in an emergency.

In the “Miracle on the Hudson” event, for example, a key factor in what happened was how long it took for the human pilots to figure out what had happened – that the plane had flown through a flock of birds, which had damaged both engines – and how to respond. Rather than the approximately one minute it took the humans, a computer could have assessed the situation in seconds, potentially saving enough time that the plane could have landed on a runway instead of a river.

Aircraft damage can pose another particularly difficult challenge for human pilots: It can change what effects the controls have on its flight. In cases where damage renders a plane uncontrollable, the result is often tragedy. A sufficiently advanced automated system could make minute changes to the aircraft’s steering and use its sensors to quickly evaluate the effects of those movements – essentially learning how to fly all over again with a damaged plane.

Boosting public confidence

The biggest barrier to fully automated flight is psychological, not technical. Many people may not want to trust their lives to computer systems. But they might come around when reassured that the software pilot has tens, hundreds or thousands more hours of flight experience than any human pilot.

Other autonomous technologies, too, are progressing despite public concerns. Regulators and lawmakers are allowing self-driving cars on the roads in many states. But more than half of Americans don’t want to ride in one, largely because they don’t trust the technology. And only 17 percent of travelers around the world are willing to board a plane without a pilot. However, as more people experience self-driving cars on the road and have drones deliver them packages, it is likely that software pilots will gain in acceptance.

Graphic Chart Photo: The Conversation

The airline industry will certainly be pushing people to trust the new systems: Automating pilots could save tens of billions of dollars a year. And the current pilot shortage means software pilots may be the key to having any airline service to smaller destinations.

Both Boeing and Airbus have made significant investments in automated flight technology, which would remove or reduce the need for human pilots. Boeing has actually bought a drone manufacturer and is looking to add software pilot capabilities to the next generation of its passenger aircraft. (Other tests have tried to retrofit existing aircraft with robotic pilots.)

One way to help regular passengers become comfortable with software pilots – while also helping to both train and test the systems – could be to introduce them as co-pilots working alongside human pilots. Planes would be operated by software from gate to gate, with the pilots instructed to touch the controls only if the system fails. Eventually pilots could be removed from the aircraft altogether, just like they eventually were from the driverless trains that we routinely ride in airports around the world.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Show Signs Of Pre-Wedding Jitters, Expert Says

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding is only a few weeks away, and according to a body language expert, the couple is already showing signs of pre-wedding jitters.

This week, the bride- and groom-to-be have made several appearances in the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting. In one event, the “Suits” star wore business-like attire with a jacket thrown over her shoulders. According to Judi James, based on the couple’s attire and body languages, they are suffering the pre-wedding jitters.

“With the wedding only four weeks away Meghan and Harry have entered the most stressful time of any engagement,” the expert told Daily Star. “There are hints in their body language that they could be suffering from the infamous pre-wedding jitters that nearly all couples fall prey to, no matter how much they’re looking forward to the big day.”

Among the subtle signs that James noticed is Markle using her jacket as a cloak. According to the expert, it suggests “feelings of vulnerability and a desire to be cuddled or reassured.”

James also noticed Prince Harry doing a small trouser-hike. “When men are under pressure they often suffer an increase of ‘checking’ rituals that involve clothing. Prince Charles pats his pockets and fiddles with his cuffs and his son seems to be using clothing-touches as a similar self-calming trait,” she said.

Meanwhile, she also noticed that there’s a decrease in Prince Harry and Markle’s touching. According to her, another sign of wedding jitters is one a couple who couldn’t keep their hands off each other become less tactile.

In addition, James has observed that Markle keeps her distance from her future husband. In fact, the actress was photographed walking ahead Prince Harry at times, which she believes was done on purpose by the actress.

“Meghan walks with a slightly larger gap between herself and Harry here and by bringing up her inside arm in a hair preen gesture she gets to show off her ring but also create a subtle barrier that emphasises her independence as a royal-to-be,” James explained.

Prince Harry and Markle are tying the knot on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The wedding ceremony will begin 12 p.m. UK time (7 a.m. EST).

Brad Pitt, Neri Oxman Keep Romance Secret By Conversing Over Phone

More details on how Brad Pitt and rumored girlfriend Neri Oxman kept their relationship secret for the past six months have emerged. It seems the couple really does their best to keep their romance hush-hush by talking over the phone when they are not around each other.

On Thursday, a source familiar with Pitt and Oxman’s relationship exclusively told Us Weekly that they call each other several times of the day when they are not together. “The continue to talk on the pone several times a day and are very infatuated with each other,” the source disclosed.

According to the source, the Hollywood actor and the MIT professor resort to phone calls due to their busy schedules. Pitt is working on his upcoming films, while Oxman is focused on her classes and career as an architectural designer. “Their busy schedules are going to be huge challenge because Neri isn’t going to give up her life in Cambridge or her job at MIT for anyone, even Brad Pitt,” the source said.

Nonetheless, Pitt and Oxman strive hard to make their relationship work. Though they are based on opposite coasts, they take time to be with each other without worrying about the future. “They are going to have fun and see where it goes,” an insider shared.

As previously reported, Pitt prefers to stay in Oxman’s apartment when he is in Boston. There they would relax and talk over meals that are either prepared by the actor himself, or from Oxman’s favorite restaurants in the area. “Neri doesn’t cook. Brad has been [doing] a lot of cooking. [And] they have been ordering food in from her favorite restaurants [as well],” a source said.

Despite their efforts to ensure that their relationship remains under wraps, Pitt and Oxman have been put under the spotlight since their romance got exposed. The effects of which have been hard on the couple. One of Oxman’s pals said, “Neri is extremely uncomfortable with all of the media attention and feels that her personal life has now come under a microscope. Brad feels badly about this of course, but he is powerless to stop it.”

Although the cat is now out of the bag, Pitt and Oxman continue to exert effort in keeping their romance under the radar, as per Daily Mail. They prefer to do so while Pitt is still finalizing his divorce with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, who is also the mother of his six kids: Maddox, 16; Pax, 14; Zahara, 13; Shiloh, 11; and the twins Knox and Vivienne, nine.
